# Bingo Number Generator

Press call, and the next number appears large enough to read across a room. The board below shows everything called so far, and the call order is listed underneath so you can settle any dispute about whether a number came up.

No number is ever called twice. Press reset to start a fresh game.

## 75, 90 or 99

**1 to 75** is American bingo. Cards are 5×5 with a free centre square, and each column covers a fixed band: B is 1–15, I is 16–30, N is 31–45, G is 46–60, O is 61–75.

**1 to 90** is British and European bingo, also called housie. Tickets are 9×3 with fifteen numbers, and games usually run for one line, two lines, then a full house.

**1 to 99** covers house rules and homemade cards that go beyond 90.

## Why the order is shuffled up front

The obvious way to build a caller is to draw a random number each time and throw it away if it has already come up. That works fine at the start and becomes absurd at the end: with 89 of 90 numbers already called, each attempt has a 1-in-90 chance of finding the last one, so it takes about ninety tries to call a single number.

This caller shuffles the whole range once, at the start, and then walks through it. Every call costs the same, whether it is the first or the ninetieth, and no number can repeat by construction rather than by checking.

The shuffle uses Fisher-Yates with entropy from `crypto.getRandomValues()`, so every possible call order is equally likely.

## How long a game actually takes

Useful when you are planning an evening and need to know whether you have time for three games or six.

For a single ticket, the expected number of calls before it completes follows a neat formula: **k × (n + 1) ÷ (k + 1)**, where k is how many numbers the ticket holds and n is the size of the pool.

Two things follow from this, and both surprise people.

**A single ticket takes almost the whole pool.** A 90-ball full house averages 85 of the 90 calls. Watching one ticket, the game feels endless.

**More tickets in play changes everything.** Those numbers are for one ticket alone. With fifty tickets in the room, the *first* full house arrives far sooner, because you are waiting for the luckiest ticket rather than an average one. That is why a hall of players finishes in a fraction of the calls a solo test would suggest.

Practical consequence: for a short game, call a line rather than a full house, or switch to 75-ball, where a full card completes in fewer calls despite covering more numbers per ticket.

## Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

### Can the same number be called twice?

No. The order is fixed by a shuffle at the start of the game, and the caller simply advances through it. Repeats are impossible, not merely unlikely.

### What happens if I reload the page?

The game resets and a new order is shuffled. Nothing is stored, so keep the tab open for the whole game.

### Does it generate bingo cards too?

No, it calls numbers. For cards, players need physical tickets or a separate card generator.

### Can I use the keyboard?

Yes. The space bar calls the next number, so you can run a game without looking at the screen for the button.

### Is the call order really random?

Yes. The shuffle draws from your operating system's entropy through the Web Crypto API, and Fisher-Yates makes every permutation equally likely.
