## How to convert an image to JPG

1. **Upload your images.** Drag them into the window or click “Browse files”. The converter handles PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP, even dozens of files at once.
2. **Set the quality.** Use the slider, one of the presets “Web 75”, “E-mail 60” and “Print 95”, or switch to “Target file size”. The default quality is 85.
3. **Check the preview.** In the “Reference preview”, click on a detail and the magnifier shows the original and the result side by side at 100 percent.
4. **Convert and download.** The “Convert” button processes the whole batch. Download images one by one or all together as a ZIP.

## What else the JPG converter can do

### JPG at an exact size in kB

When a platform wants a photo “under 500 kB”, switch “Conversion mode” to “Target file size” and enter the limit. The converter finds the highest quality for each image that still fits under that limit. If you also need to resize the photo to exact dimensions, use the [image resizer](https://acrafto.com/en/online-image-resizer/), which combines a target size with cropping and presets for social media.

### Two quality levels side by side

Not sure whether quality 60 is enough or you need 90? Turn on “Compare two quality levels”, which starts at Quality A 60 and Quality B 90, and the magnifier shows the same detail at both settings along with the file size. You will see the difference right away on edges, text and smooth gradients, where [lossy compression](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lossy_compression) leaves its marks first.

### Transparency filled with a colour of your choice

[JPEG](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG) has no transparency. Transparent areas from a PNG or WebP file are therefore filled with the colour you pick in “Background colour”, white by default. A logo placed on a dark website gets a matching dark background instead of black or a random colour. ### A warning when conversion makes no sense

If you upload a file that is already JPEG, the converter warns that every extra save adds [generation loss](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_loss). When a converted file comes out larger than the original, which happens with small graphics or images that are already well compressed, the table flags it and one click keeps the original. That way a worse version never ends up in your ZIP.

### Resize and rename in one step

In “Advanced options” you can resize images by their longest side in pixels or by percentage, and rename them all at once using the placeholders `{name}`, `{width}`, `{height}` and `{index}`. `{name}-{width}px` turns into something like `holiday-1920px.jpg`.

### No EXIF or GPS data

For photographs, JPG is still the safest choice: every phone, printer and old program can open it. For screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges and text, PNG suits better, because JPG blurs their edges.

## Supported formats

- **PNG to JPG:** typically screenshots and graphics, the file is usually much smaller. Transparency is filled with the colour you choose.
- **WebP to JPG:** images downloaded from the web that an older program or an authority will not open.
- **GIF to JPG:** only the first frame of an animated GIF is converted.
- **BMP to JPG:** uncompressed bitmaps shrink to a fraction of their size.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I convert PNG to JPG?

Upload your PNG files, set the quality (75 to 85 is enough for the web) and click "Convert". Transparent areas are filled with the background colour, white by default. Download the finished JPGs one by one or as a ZIP.

### How do I convert WebP to JPG?

Same as PNG: upload your WebP files and convert them. Converting WebP to JPG mainly helps with images downloaded from the web that an older app or an authority cannot open.

### Does converting to JPG lose quality?

A little, JPG is a lossy format. At quality 80 and above, you will not normally see a difference on photos, and you can check with the magnifier at 100 percent. Just do not repeatedly convert JPG to JPG, each save adds more loss.

### Why is the converted JPG bigger than the original file?

### Are my images uploaded to a server?
