Rounding Presets – Quick Start
For the most common uses, we have prepared 4 predefined profiles. Just one click and you can download immediately.
Subtle Rounding (5%)
When to use: Modern web design where you want to maintain a crisp but not overly geometric look.
Ideal for:
- Product photos for e-commerce
- Images for blogs and articles
- Banners and ads
- UI design (apps, websites)
Effect: Almost imperceptible rounding that gives the image a softer, more pleasant impression without significant change.
Medium Rounding (10%)
When to use: A universal choice for most projects. The rounding is clearly visible but does not overshadow the photo’s content.
Ideal for:
- Photos on landing pages
- Video thumbnails
- Team members sections
- Website galleries
Effect: Classic rounding that is standard in modern web design. Looks professional and friendly.
Strong Rounding (20%)
When to use: When you want a prominent design statement or it fits a brand with a playful character.
Ideal for:
- Creative portfolios
- Children’s websites and apps
- Lifestyle blogs
- Instagram grid design
Effect: Strong rounding that is a main design element. Photos get a specific, memorable look.
Circle (50%)
When to use: You need perfectly circular profile photos or circular design elements.
Ideal for:
- Avatars and profile pictures
- Testimonials (customer reviews)
- Team photos
- Logo placeholders
- Social media profile pictures
Effect: A square turns into a circle, a rectangle into an ellipse. Perfect for creating a consistent style for an entire team’s profile photos.
Advanced Settings – Full Control
Individual Corner Settings
Don’t need symmetrical rounding? Set each corner separately for unique, asymmetric effects.
Examples of asymmetric use:
- Top-left and bottom-right corners rounded, others sharp → dynamic, modern look
- Only bottom corners rounded → Material Design-inspired design
- One corner significantly more rounded → unconventional, attention-grabbing design
How to do it:
- Click the lock icon (🔓) to unlink corners
- Each slider controls one specific corner
- See changes in real-time
- Click 🔗 to re-link all corners
Measurement Units – Percent vs. Pixels
Percent (%) – recommended The radius is calculated relative to the image size. 10% means that on both small and large images, the rounding will appear proportionally the same.
When to use: When processing photos of different sizes and you want a consistent visual effect.
Pixels (px) – precise control The radius has an absolute size regardless of the image dimensions. 50px will always be 50px.
When to use: When you need a precisely defined radius (e.g., a design system requires a 16px border-radius).
Background Selection – What Happens to the Corners?
When you round corners, you must specify what appears in the area where the sharp edges used to be.
Transparent Background (PNG) Corners will be transparent – ideal for use on websites with colored backgrounds or for further editing in graphic editors.
⚠️ Note: Requires PNG or WebP output format. JPG does not support transparency!
White Background Corners will be white – a standard choice for photos that will be on a white background (e-shops, print materials).
Black Background Corners will be black – use for dark mode designs or dark backgrounds.
Custom Color Choose the exact color using a color picker – a perfect match for your website’s or brand’s color scheme.
Tip: Copy the hex code of your website’s background color (e.g., #F5F5F5) for perfect matching.
Curve Type – Standard vs. Smooth
Standard Curve (arcTo)
The classic mathematical rounding used in CSS border-radius. Creates a uniform arc – exactly what eyes are accustomed to from most websites.
When to use: For a standard, predictable look compatible with CSS design.
Smooth Curve (quadraticCurve) A softer, more organic curve created using Bézier curves. Appears gentler and more natural.
When to use: For artistic photographs, organic designs, when you want something special.
Difference: A standard curve has constant curvature. A smooth curve is gentle at the start and gradually rounds – it looks more “elegant.”
Batch Processing – Save Hours of Work
Do you need to round corners on 50 product photos for an e-shop? Or create uniform profile photos for an entire team? Batch processing can do it automatically.
How it works:
- Upload all images at once (no limit on number)
- Set rounding – it applies to all photos
- Monitor progress – each photo has a status “Processing” → “Done”
- Download ZIP – all edited photos in one file
Real-world example: You have 30 team photos of various dimensions and need to turn them into uniform circular avatars with a transparent background. The entire process takes less than a minute:
- Upload all (drag & drop)
- Preset “Circle”
- Background “Transparent”
- Format “PNG”
- Download ZIP
- Done! ✓

Tips and Tricks from Professionals
Golden Rule: Less is More
For most projects, 8-12% rounding is sufficient. Too prominent rounding can look unprofessional.
Consistency is Key
Use the same rounding on all photos in a project. Inconsistency looks chaotic.
PNG for Transparency
Want transparent corners? Always export as PNG or WebP, never JPG.
Asymmetry in Moderation
Asymmetric rounding is effective, but don’t overdo it – use it for accents, not on every photo.
Mobile-First Approach
Rounded corners look even better on mobile than on desktop. Test the appearance on smaller screens.
Background According to Context
- Website with a white background → white photo background
- Website with dark mode → black or transparent
- Colored background → transparent PNG or precisely matching color
Pixels for Design Systems
If you work according to a design system (e.g., Material Design with an 8px grid), use pixel units for precise consistency.
Circular Photos – Centering is Important
Before creating a circle, make sure the main content of the photo (e.g., a face) is centered. Otherwise, it will end up outside the crop.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why is my circular photo distorted into an ellipse?
The "Circle" preset works perfectly on square photos (1:1 aspect ratio). If you upload a rectangular photo (e.g., 16:9 or 4:3), the result will be an ellipse (oval), not a perfect circle. Solution: Before processing, crop the photo to a square using our "Image Cropper" tool or any editor. Then use the "Circle" preset to get a perfectly round photo. Can I round the corners of an animated GIF?
Currently, no – GIF animations are unfortunately not supported. The tool only processes static images (JPG, PNG, WebP). If you upload an animated GIF, only the first frame will be processed. To preserve animation, you would need a specialized GIF editing tool. How to create a perfectly circular profile photo?
Follow these steps:1. Crop the photo to a square (1:1 ratio) – you can use our "Image Cropper" tool
2. Upload the square photo to the corner rounding tool
3. Click the "Circle" preset (sets 50% rounding)
4. Select "Transparent" background (important for transparent corners)
5. Choose "PNG" format (JPG does not support transparency)
6. Download the result – you have a perfectly round photo with a transparent background, ideal for avatars!
Why do rounded corners have rough, jagged edges?
This can have several causes: 1) Low resolution of the original photo – for smooth edges, we recommend at least 800×800 pixels. Smaller photos do not have enough pixels to render a smooth curve. 2) Strong JPG compression – try PNG output for better quality. 3) Browser – older browsers do not have as good anti-aliasing. Our tool uses the Canvas API with anti-aliasing, but quality also depends on the input image. Can I set different rounding for each photo during batch processing?
No – batch processing applies the same settings to all uploaded photos simultaneously. This is its main advantage – speed and consistency. If you need individual rounding for each photo (e.g., photo 1 has 10%, photo 2 has 20%), you must process them individually or in multiple batches with the same settings.Does rounding corners affect the quality of the original photo?
No, if you choose the correct output format. When using PNG (lossless compression) or JPG/WebP with 90-100% quality, the process is practically lossless. Rounding is created using Canvas API clipping – original pixels within the rounded area remain untouched. The only change is at the corners, where a background is added (transparent/white/black/custom).Does the tool work offline without an internet connection?
Yes! After the first page load, the tool is saved to your browser's cache (thanks to the service worker). On subsequent visits, even without internet, the tool works fully. Photos are processed locally in your browser, so you don't need internet even during processing. Ideal for working on the go or in places with poor signal.Do you process photos on your server?
Absolutely not! Everything runs 100% locally in your browser using HTML5 Canvas API and JavaScript. Photos are never uploaded, they do not leave your computer, and we do not have access to them. Therefore, the tool works offline and is safe for confidential company materials or personal photos. No cookies, no tracking, no data storage. How to round corners according to precise CSS values (e.g., border-radius: 16px)?
If you are working with a design system and need precisely 16px rounding (the same as CSSborder-radius: 16px), proceed as follows: 1) Switch units from "Percent" to "Pixels". 2) Set the sliders to the value 16. 3) Make sure the corners are linked (🔗) for uniform rounding. The resulting file will have exactly a 16px radius, consistent with your CSS design.
Can I create asymmetric rounding (each corner different)?
Yes! This is one of the advanced features of the tool. Click the lock icon (🔓) to unlink corners. Then you can set each corner individually using separate sliders. You can create interesting effects, e.g.: only bottom corners rounded (modern card design), one corner significantly more (asymmetric composition), or top-left + bottom-right (diagonal dynamics). Use it creatively!Difference from CSS border-radius
Why not just CSS?
CSS border-radius only works in the browser – it does not round the actual image file. This means:
- ❌ You cannot round a photo for Instagram, email, print
- ❌ It does not support transparent backgrounds (only creates a visual illusion)
- ❌ It doesn’t work outside the web (PowerPoint, PDF, Word)
Our tool creates a truly rounded file:
- ✅ You download a truly modified image
- ✅ The transparent background is actually transparent (alpha channel)
- ✅ Usable everywhere (web, print, apps, social media)
- ✅ One file, no additional CSS code
Advantages over Photoshop and other programs
✅ No installation – run directly in the browser ✅ Cross-platform – Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS ✅ Completely free – no limits, no watermarks ✅ Simpler than Photoshop – 3 clicks vs. 10+ steps ✅ Faster – no waiting for the program to launch ✅ Batch processing – edit dozens of photos at once ✅ Presets – no manual radius calculations ✅ Secure – photos do not leave your computer
Security and Privacy
Your photos never leave your computer. Processing takes place 100% locally in your browser using modern web technologies.
