Weekend days
Days off

Vacation, regional holidays or company days off. They stay saved in this browser.

Everything is calculated in your browser, no dates are sent anywhere.

Count the days between dates in both directions: pick a start date and an end date, and the calculator shows the number of days at once, together with the same span in years, months and days, in weeks, in working days without weekends and public holidays, and in hours, minutes and seconds. The second tab adds or subtracts days, weeks, months or years from a date and shows how the result was counted. Nothing is sent to a server, the dates stay in your browser.

How to calculate the days between two dates

    1. Enter the Start date and the End date, or press Today next to either field. The result updates with every change. When the page opens, it counts from today to 1 January of next year.
    2. Decide whether the last day counts (see below) and tick Include the end date (+1 day) if it does.
    3. Read the number of days in the large figure and the other units in the rows below it. Each row has its own copy button, so you can paste “11 months, 24 days” straight into a document.

Swap dates (⇄) exchanges the two fields. If the end date is earlier than the start date, you still get the number of days, with a note that the dates are counted backwards. The timeline under the result draws the span to scale, with ticks at the start of each month or year and a diamond marking today. The address bar keeps the dates you picked, so a bookmark or a link sent to a colleague opens the same calculation.

Example: from 1 January 2026 to 25 December 2026 there are 358 days, which is 11 months, 24 days or 51 weeks, 1 day.

Should the end date be included?

Date calculators often differ by one day because they answer two different questions. “How many days from Monday to Friday?” is 4 if you count the nights between the dates, and 5 if you count every day you are there. By default the calculator includes the start date and leaves out the end date, the way a hotel counts nights or a spreadsheet subtracts two dates: from Monday 5 October 2026 to Friday 9 October 2026 that gives 4 days. With Include the end date (+1 day) the result is 5 days, which is what you want for a vacation, a course or a rental priced per day. The same switch applies to the working days, the weeks and the months in the rows.

Add or subtract days from a date

Switch to Add or subtract, choose the Start date and fill in Years, Months, Weeks or Days. + Add counts forward, − Subtract counts back. 90 days after 9 October 2026 is 7 January 2027, 90 days before it is 11 July 2026. Under the result you find the date in ISO 8601 format (2027-01-07), the day of the year and the ISO week number. Add to calendar (.ics) saves the date as an all day event for Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar, which is handy for a deadline or the end of a notice period.

Months are added before weeks and days, and How it was counted lists each step. A month has no fixed length, so adding one month keeps the day of the month: 9 October becomes 9 November. When that day does not exist, the date moves to the last day of the month: 31 January 2026 + 1 month = 28 February 2026, and the calculator tells you that it happened. Excel’s EDATE function and many programming libraries use the same rule. Adding 1 month and 10 days to 31 January 2026 therefore gives 10 March 2026.

Working days between dates, with public holidays

The Working days row counts the days between the dates that are neither weekend days, nor public holidays, nor your own days off, and the Public holidays row shows how many holidays fell on working days. Open Weekend, holidays and days off to see those holidays listed with their names. By default they are the holidays of the country of the page language, the United States here, and the menu offers 60 countries, from Germany and Japan to Brazil and Egypt, so you can count working days for an office or a client abroad. Choosing a country also sets its weekend: Friday and Saturday in Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, Sunday only in India.

In 2026 the United States has 261 weekdays and 11 federal holidays fall on them, which leaves 250 working days. The holidays include the observed days that the law moves to a Friday or a Monday, such as Friday 3 July 2026 for Independence Day on a Saturday. Only nationwide holidays are included, for the years 1990 to 2060. Add state holidays, vacation or a company shutdown under Days off, as a single date or as a range; a day off that falls on a weekend or a holiday is not subtracted twice, and the list stays saved in your browser. Islamic holidays are calculated in advance and can differ by a day from the officially announced date.

The same settings apply to Count working days only in the second tab: 10 working days after Friday 9 October 2026 is Monday 26 October 2026, because both weekends and Columbus Day on Monday 12 October are skipped. The holidays skipped are listed under the result.

How the days between dates are counted in years and months

Whole months are counted from the start date, then the remaining days. From 31 January to 1 March 2026 there are 29 days, which the calculator shows as 1 month, 1 day, because 31 January plus one month is 28 February. A span written in months is therefore less exact than a number of days, which is why contracts, deadlines and interest are usually counted in days.

All dates use the Gregorian calendar from year 1 to 9999, including the years before it was introduced in 1582 (the proleptic Gregorian calendar). Time zones and daylight saving time play no role: every day has 24 hours, so hours, minutes and seconds are exact multiples of the days. To count the seconds between two moments with a time of day, use the Unix timestamp converter. To turn a number of days into weeks or years, use the time converter.

    Frequently asked questions

How many days are there between two dates?

Subtract the earlier date from the later one. The calculator does it with leap years and the different month lengths taken into account: from 1 January 2026 to 25 December 2026 it is 358 days, or 359 when the end date counts as well.

Does the number of days include the start and end date?

The start date is included and the end date is not, as in a spreadsheet or a hotel booking. Tick Include the end date (+1 day) to count both, for example for a vacation from Monday to Friday, which is then 5 days instead of 4.

What date is 90 days from today?

Open Add or subtract, press Today, keep + Add and type 90 into Days. The date appears with its weekday and can go straight into your calendar. From 9 October 2026, for example, it is 7 January 2027.

How do I count working days between two dates?

Read the Working days row. It leaves out the weekend and the public holidays of the country chosen in Weekend, holidays and days off, the United States by default, and any days off you add. In 2026 the United States has 250 working days, 261 weekdays minus 11 federal holidays.

Why does adding one month to 31 January give 28 February?

February has no 31st day, so the date moves to the last day of February, which is the 29th in a leap year. The calculator shows a note when this happens. Subtracting works the same way: 31 March 2026 minus one month is 28 February 2026.

How old am I in days?

Put your date of birth as the start date and today as the end date, or use the age calculator, which also shows the next birthday and milestones like your 10,000th day.

More tools for dates and times are in the Date & time category. For the share of a period that has passed, such as how far into the year you are, combine the number of days with the percentage calculator.
